The Leonard Tigers will head out on the road to take on the S & S Consolidated Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Leonard took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Howe, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 5-4.
Ethan McCarthy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. McCarthy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
McCarthy wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maliek Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Harris has hit this season.
Meanwhile, S & S Consolidated had to endure an 11-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Grayson Christian 10-2 on Tuesday. The Rams not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1, 2024 (when they won 14-4).
Like Leonard, S & S Consolidated also got a great game from a two-way player: Nik Roseberry. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Roseberry was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Brightin McNabb was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Major Milam, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
Leonard is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for S & S Consolidated, their record is now 5-13.
S & S Consolidated's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leonard has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. It's a different story for S & S Consolidated, though, as they've only averaged .316. Will they be able to contain Leonard's hitters?
Everything went Leonard's way against S & S Consolidated in their previous matchup last Friday, as Leonard made off with a 15-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
