Two dominant guards in Isaiah Reiser and Carlo Mulford are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Copper Hills Grizzlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Herriman Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Copper Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 matchups -- so hopefully Herriman likes a good challenge.
Copper Hills is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Bingham, who was ranked ninth at the time (Copper Hills was ranked 18th). Copper Hills received a blow on Friday as they fell 74-60 to Bingham. The Grizzlies have struggled against the Miners recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Copper Hills got top-tier performance from Reiser, who went 9 of 18 en route to 25 points. Another player making a difference was Austin Ormond, who posted seven points.
Meanwhile, Herriman had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. Everything went their way against the Chargers as they made off with a 71-49 victory. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 21 points or more this season.
Herriman's win came from a few key players Copper Hills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mulford, who had 36 points and three steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cale Barclay, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards.
Herriman was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corner Canyon only racked up seven assists.
Copper Hills' loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Herriman, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Copper Hills hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 66.4 points per game. However, it's not like Herriman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Copper Hills came up short against Herriman in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 71-66. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mulford, who scored 35 points and six assists. Now that Copper Hills knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
