After a string of three wins, the Smithsburg Leopards's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 68-59 to Middletown. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smithsburg in their matchups with the Knights: they've now lost nine in a row.
Skyla Mastronardi and Maren McFarland certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Mastronardi almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds, while McFarland scored 13 points along with seven assists and four steals. Mastronardi is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Weaver, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Smithsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Middletown, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Smithsburg will take on the Blazers at TBD on Monday. As for Middletown, they will head out on the road to take on the Railroaders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Brunswick: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while the Knights have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
