Athens and Wyalusing Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. Last Friday, Athens got the win against Sayre by a conclusive 14-2. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brady Flynn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Troy Rosenbloom, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kamdyn Wheeler, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Athens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Wyalusing Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 17-7 to South Williamsport. That's two games in a row now that the Rams have lost by exactly ten runs.
Kenny Mapes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Micheal Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Wyalusing Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Athens, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Wyalusing Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Athens hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. It's a different story for Wyalusing Valley, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Athens' hitters?
Everything went Athens' way against Wyalusing Valley in their previous matchup back in March, as Athens made off with a 19-4 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
