Baseball Recap: Starkville Find Success

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Starkville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Tupelo Golden Wave 7-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Yellowjackets also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Lucian Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two RBI.

In other pitching news, Brody Wright tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Will Moody was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jonas Coleman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Starkville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Starkville and bumps their season record up to 13-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Tupelo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Tupelo beat Starkville by a score of 14-3 on Friday.
