The Kirbyville Wildcats are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Kelly Catholic Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on December 21st.
Last Tuesday, Kirbyville suffered a rough 42-20 defeat at the hands of East Chambers. While losing is never fun, Kirbyville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1048th, while East Chambers is ranked 223rd).
Meanwhile, Kelly Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 50-16 win over Southwest Louisiana HomeSchool. With Kelly Catholic ahead 33-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Kelly Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zanaya Flanagan out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Flanagan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Doctor, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Kirbyville bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.5 points per game. As for Kelly Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
