Basketball Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Piles Up the Points Against Moapa Valley

Mater Academy East Las Vegas waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They breezed by the Moapa Valley Pirates to the tune of 83-46. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 29 points or more this season.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas had a senior duo take command as Lonnie Bass dropped a double-double on 31 points and 12 rebounds and Deven Taylor went 11 for 14 en route to 27 points and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bass has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Miles Williams, who posted two points and 13 assists.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas was working as a unit and finished the game with 30 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in five consecutive games.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryson Walker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. Walker is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 15 games he's played. Jaxson Bunker was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.1 points per game. As for Moapa Valley, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 8-14.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas will head out on the road to face off against Eldorado at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st. Moapa Valley has already played their next matchup, a 69-22 win against Cristo Rey St. Viator on the 24th.
