1A-1 Region II District 8 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Honey Grove extended the longest winning streak in 1A-1 Region II District 8 this week by beating Wolfe City, 54-13. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Warriors.
Boles moved up to 779 from 894 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Hornets climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Celeste 13-12.
Honey Grove's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jeremy Patt threw for 103 and one touchdown and Chance Barbee had 43 yards receiving. On the ground Demontrae Finney chipped in 157 yards. Finney helped Honey Grove's passing attack out by catching four balls for 41 yards.
The Blue Devils' Braden Morrow and Bryce Keiffer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Morrow has thrown for 559 yards this season, while Keiffer, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 17 catches for 253 yards. Brian Lewis' team's Finney leads the league in rushing yards with 869.
A big matchup in 1A-1 Region II District 8 this week will be when Bowie takes on Boles. The Pirates are currently in fourth, while Gordon Jordan's team is in second.
The Hornets and Celeste played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Hornets eventually emerging with a 13-12 victory. Devan Harris ran for 128 yards and caught one passes for 18 yards in the win.
