Softball Recap: Irvine Sets Scoring Season-High Against Portola

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Irvine). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Portola Bulldogs an 18-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Vaqueros in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won seven in a row.

Midori De Los Santos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. De Los Santos was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Irvine got a massive performance out of Katie Liu, who went 4-for-6 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave Liu a new career-high. Abby Sasaki was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Irvine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Irvine's record is now 8-16. As for Portola, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15-1 record this season.
