The Seventy-First Falcons struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Cape Fear Colts had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Seventy-First was dealt a 89-53 defeat at the hands of Cape Fear. While losing is never fun, Seventy-First can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while Cape Fear is ranked 27th).
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kariana Williams, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Williams' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mariyah Massey, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Jayda Angel continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cape Fear, dropping a double-double on 40 points and ten steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Angel has scored at least 25% of Cape Fear's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Teralyn Harris, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Seventy-First and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Cape Fear, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seventy-First is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Pender at 4:00 p.m. on December 20th. Pender is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Cape Fear, they will head out on the road to face off against Pine Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
