The East Chapel Hill Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight loss. They fell 55-46 to Riverside-Durham. While losing is never fun, East Chapel Hill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Riverside-Durham is ranked 113th).
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaiah Styron, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Bryan, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Riverside-Durham got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Corey Hairston Jr. out in front who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Sneed, who scored nine points along with three steals and three blocks.
East Chapel Hill dropped their record down to 5-11 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Riverside-Durham, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Chapel Hill won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cedar Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cedar Ridge is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Riverside-Durham, they will head out on the road to challenge Northern Durham at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Northern Durham and Riverside-Durham are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
