The Archbishop Mitty Monarchs will challenge the Mountain View Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Archbishop Mitty has three straight wins, Mountain View has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Archbishop Mitty is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Carlmont a 9-0 shutout on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
The result came thanks to Kyleigh Mace's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Archbishop Mitty got a big performance out of Payton Burton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Makayla (MJ) Fikes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Archbishop Mitty kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mountain View lost 13-2 to Soquel on Thursday.
Mountain View saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Anderson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was Anderson's first of the season.
Archbishop Mitty's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Mountain View, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Mitty has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
