The Dwyer Panthers will challenge the Martin County Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Dwyer is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Dwyer is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Royal Palm Beach. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won seven in a row.
Logan Reed spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Dom Pecoraro was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Rocco Bianco was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Martin County came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Martin County also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and he was also dialed-in: Cody Bennin gave up only one earned run on five hits. Bennin has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kamai Purce, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Frankie Brancaleone, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Martin County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forest Hill only posted an OBP of .308.
Martin County pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dwyer, their record is now 12-10.
Dwyer was able to grind out a solid win over Martin County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
