Grand Island faced Lincoln Southwest in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Islanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Silver Hawks. Winning may never get old, but the Islanders sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Grand Island got a great performance from Gabe Ruiz as he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Gage Gannon was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had over his last 11 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Schroeder, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Grand Island's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Lincoln Southwest, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-11 record this season.
