On Thursday, Avery County was beaten by McDowell 71-35. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Avery County in their matchups with McDowell: they've now lost four in a row.
Avery County's defeat came about despite a quality game from Hannah Mace, who scored five points. Mace also grabbed two steals for the first time this season.
Meanwhile, Patton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 64-12 loss at the hands of East Burke. Patton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-9.
Avery County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-6. As for Patton, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-11.
Everything came up roses for Avery County against Patton when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 77-22 win. Will Avery County repeat their success, or does Patton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
