Del Campo moved up to 153 from 216 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Capital Valley. The Cougars were able to make the jump by beating Casa Roble 49-6.
Christian Brothers and Oakmont played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Christian Brothers eventually emerging with a 24-20 victory.
Derek Rodigo and Austin Brown gave Del Campo a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Rodigo threw for 82 yards and two touchdowns, while Brown ran for 168 yards. Josh Blumgold also contributed to the rushing game with 159 yards on the ground.
Taylor Laird provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Vikings fell to the Falcons. He completed nine passes for 102 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 95 yards. Laird's favorite target this week was Justin Holmes, who caught seven passes for 82 yards.
Oakmont's Laird and Holmes have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Laird has thrown for 985 yards this season, while Holmes, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 30 catches for 524 yards. Marcel Brown from Rio Linda leads the league in rushing with 861 yards.
A big matchup in Capital Valley this week will be when Christian Brothers takes on the Knights. George Petrissans' team is in third place, while Rio Linda is in first place.
There should be lots of points scored when Mike Dimino's team and Tim Moore's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Cougars comes in having scored 199 this season, while the Vikings have scored 147. Del Campo scored 49 points last week as it topped the Rams.
The Cougars took down Casa Roble 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Rodigo ran for 17 yards in the win.
