The Freeport Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Destin Sharks at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Freeport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact Freeport proved. They came out on top against Walton by a score of 53-45. The win was just what Freeport needed coming off of a 71-47 defeat in their prior game.
Freeport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sienna Fisher, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Ludwig, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Destin's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Central on the road and fell 54-23. While losing is never fun, Destin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 578th, while Central is ranked 188th).
Freeport's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Destin, they bumped their record down to 2-8 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Freeport against Destin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 58-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Freeport since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
