The St. Pauls Bulldogs gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Douglas Byrd 84-35 at home. That's another feather in the cap for St. Pauls, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading St. Pauls to victory were Ava Monroe and Zhariana Shipman. Monroe scored 20 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals, while Shipman scored 27 points. Another player making a difference was Jashontae Harris, who scored 15 points along with 8 assists and 4 steals.
Douglas Byrd's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jazmine Burns, who scored 5 points along with 16 rebounds and 6 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gemaiyia Johnson, who scored 6 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.
St. Pauls' victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
St. Pauls will head out on the road to face off against Seaforth at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Douglas Byrd, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Red Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
