Kathleen has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the St. Cloud Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Kathleen had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 52-10 win over the Dreadnaughts. Given Kathleen's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Lakeland is ranked 439th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kathleen's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kayden Gause, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Amaya Shaw, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Shaw hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Haley Roper, who scored five points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, St. Cloud scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They really took it to Bartow for the full four quarters, racking up a 87-24 win on the road. Winning may never get old, but St. Cloud sure is getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Kathleen's win bumped their record up to 18-7. As for St. Cloud, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
