The Bell Griffins will head out on the road to take on the Coolidge Colts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bell comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Friday, Bell faced KIPP College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Bell was outmatched by KIPP College Prep on the road and fell 41-7.
Meanwhile, Coolidge unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a hard 42-23 fall against Maret. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Coolidge has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Coolidge saw an underclassman step up: Josslyn Derricott scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That was a full 87% of Coolidge's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Coolidge struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bell bumped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.2 points per game. As for Coolidge, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Bell was dealt a bruising 60-4 defeat at the hands of Coolidge in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Bell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
