The Claxton Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Bulloch Academy Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Claxton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 454th, while the Gators are ranked 124th).
Claxton had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Emanuel County Institute with a 49-44 victory on Tuesday.
Claxton found their leader in underclassman Jayda Jordan, who scored 24 points. Another player making a difference was Zarriana Ortaviyah harden, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Bulloch Academy came tearing into Tuesday's match with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Frederica Academy as Bulloch Academy made off with a 57-35 victory. Bulloch Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 22 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Ashantay Noble, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Bulloch Academy's points. Emme Powell was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Claxton's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-16. As for Bulloch Academy, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5.
Things could have been worse for Claxton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-45 loss to the Gators in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Claxton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
