D2 District 6 (8 Man) recap Oct. 16, 2012
Kenesaw and Shelton played the most hotly contested game in D2 District 6 (8 Man) this week, with Kenesaw eventually emerging with a 25-20 victory. Tyler Schnitzler threw for 95 yards and ran for 300 yards in the win.
Lawrence-Nelson led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Wilcox-Hildreth.
Axtell's dynamic duo of Lance Taylor and Jacob Jelden proved tough for Amherst to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Taylor threw for 67 yards and one touchdown and Jelden had 93 yards receiving. Conner Wells helped Axtell's passing attack out by catching one ball for 15 yards.
Jelden made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wildcats lost to the Broncos. The 5-foot-8 junior grabbed one interception.
On the ground, the Bulldogs' Luke Glenn has rushed for 1054 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jelden. The Axtell star has 15 catches for 417 yards.
Schnitzler of the the Blue Devils is only four yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 81 carries Schnitzler has accumulated 996 yard this year.
Next week's game between Kenesaw and Bryan Becker's team will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Schnitzler tests his arm against Jelden's defensive ability. Kenesaw's Schnitzler has recorded 605 yards and seven touchdowns this year, while the Wildcats' Jelden has four interceptions to his name.
A big matchup in D2 District 6 (8 Man) this week will be when the Falcons take on Shelton. As it stands, Wilcox-Hildreth is in fifth, while Mike Lowe's team is in first.
