The Harrison Raiders and the McCutcheon Mavericks squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Harrison Raiders had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 51-49. While losing is never fun, Harrison can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Mavericks are ranked 43rd).
Harrison's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Whitlock, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Whitlock hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Elsie Ahnert, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
McCutcheon was led to victory by Braelyn Williams and Lillie Graves. Williams scored 18 points, while Graves scored 18 points along with eight assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Kalea Washington was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 15 rebounds.
Harrison's loss dropped their record down to 13-13. As for McCutcheon, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-4.
Harrison does not have any more games scheduled as of now. McCutcheon and the Spartans will face off at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Homestead is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
