The Giles Spartans will challenge the Fort Chiswell Pioneers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Giles is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Giles will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Galax on Tuesday. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Maroon Tide. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Maroon Tide recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Addie Lowry made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Addisyn Vanderpool and Addison Hylton did most of the damage at the plate: Vanderpool went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Hylton went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kylee Snider, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Giles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Fort Chiswell lost 12-3 to Auburn on Tuesday. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Fort Chiswell saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Frazier, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Jenna Ball also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Giles' victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Fort Chiswell, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Giles has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fort Chiswell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Giles skirted past Fort Chiswell 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
