The East Greenwich Avengers are taking a road trip to take on the South Kingstown Rebels at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Greenwich has four straight wins, South Kingstown has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
East Greenwich will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Scituate, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Avengers walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Spartans on Thursday.

Kayleigh Chaiyabhat spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, East Greenwich let Brooke Fairbanks and Olivia DeShazo run wild. Fairbanks went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double, while DeShazo went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Chloe Hartman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: East Greenwich kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times South Kingstown and Westerly had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rebels lost 16-2 to the Bulldogs on Saturday. Rebels fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Bulldogs since on Saturday.
Tessa O'Sullivan was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Abigail O'Rourke also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
East Greenwich's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for South Kingstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Greenwich hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like South Kingstown struggles in that department as they've averaged .420. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Greenwich skirted past South Kingstown 1-0 when the teams last played back in June of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Avengers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
