The Seguin Matadors will head out on the road to square off against the Jefferson Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Seguin will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
On Friday, Seguin got the win against Lanier by a conclusive 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Matadors, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Mikey Hernandez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Ethan Tipple was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Moreno, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Seguin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Jefferson hadn't done well against Burbank recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 7-6. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by just one run.
Aiden Urdiales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Urdiales was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Fernando Benitez-Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Abelardo Flores was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Seguin's record is now 18-8. As for Jefferson, their record now sits at 12-8-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Seguin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Jefferson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Seguin's way against Jefferson when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Seguin made off with a 6-0 victory. Do the Matadors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
