Edmonds-Woodway is 9-1 against Shorewood since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Stormrays at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Edmonds-Woodway 2, Shorewood 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Edmonds-Woodway is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Stanwood just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 2-1.
Declan Crawford was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April.
On the hitting side, Edmonds-Woodway saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lukas Wanke, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Shorewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against Meadowdale on Tuesday by a score of 5-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win continues a trend for the Stormrays in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won three in a row.
Jameson Connolly was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lorenzo Jaramillo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Joey Facilla, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Shorewood's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Edmonds-Woodway, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edmonds-Woodway has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Shorewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Edmonds-Woodway skirted past Shorewood 3-2 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Stormrays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
