On Friday, the Germantown Mavericks faced the Starkville Yellowjackets in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Germantown rang in the new year with a 57-50 victory over Starkville. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Germantown.
Germantown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Raegan Jordan, who scored 13 points along with five assists. Jordan continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Alana Rouser was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Starkville still got an impressive performance from Tootie Lockett, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Lockett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Johnson, who scored 12 points.
Germantown has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Starkville, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-2.
Germantown won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against White Station at 11:15 a.m. on January 6th. White Station will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 196th in Tennessee, while Germantown is ranked 24th in Mississippi). Starkville won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pontotoc at 3:00 p.m. on January 6th. Pontotoc will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
