It was a good run, but Wilson Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 59-58 to Mount Vernon. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Mount Vernon to victory were Kj Garris and Xavier Shegog. Garris dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Shegog dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Shegog continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sha'yah Goba, who scored nine points.
Wilson Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2. As for Mount Vernon, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4.
Wilson Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Mount Vernon will take on Mainland in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on December 21st at. Hopefully Mainland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Friday.
