Wheatland and Marysville are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Pirates will face off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wheatland has nine straight wins, Marysville has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Wheatland made easy work of Colfax and carried off a 16-2 victory. Considering the Pirates have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Chasidy Sills was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ella Woolery was incredible, firing off two home runs, eight RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. Sophia Logan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 13 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Marysville came up short against Bear River on Thursday, falling 15-4.
Emma Mallen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Haliegh Russell, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Wheatland pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. As for Marysville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
Wheatland beat Marysville 8-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
