East River is 3-0 against the Bulldogs since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The East River Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Melbourne Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Melbourne took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on East River, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, East River beat the Lions 38-34. The win was just what East River needed coming off of a 56-24 loss in their prior match.
It was another big night for Yariana Lugo Perez, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East River's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keilani Serrano, who scored four points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Melbourne's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They lost to Sebastian River at home by a decisive 49-33 margin. While losing is never fun, Melbourne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while the Sharks are ranked 176th).
East River's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Melbourne, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-15.
Everything came up roses for East River against the Bulldogs when the teams last played back in January of 2022 as the squad secured a 79-9 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for East River since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
