Canby has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the South Albany Redhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Wednesday, Canby was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-50 to Oregon City. While losing is never fun, Canby can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Oregon City is ranked 42nd).
Despite the loss, Canby got a solid performance out of Jack Brauckmiller, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Trevin Slagle, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, South Albany's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to North Marion. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Canby bumped their record down to 2-4 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points per game. As for South Albany, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-2.
Canby came up short against South Albany when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 55-45. Can Canby avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
