Carterville has gone 9-1 against Pinckneyville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lions will face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Carterville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Carterville is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Murphysboro.
Alex Lyell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Poole, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Pinckneyville hadn't done well against Benton recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers came out on top against the Rangers by a score of 6-2.
JD Kellerman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kolton Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Reed Marlow, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Pinckneyville's record is now 8-6. As for Carterville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Carterville has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Pinckneyville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carterville was able to grind out a solid win over Pinckneyville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 10-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
