McDonough has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Pace Academy Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully McDonough focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, McDonough was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-54 to Stockbridge. While losing is never fun, McDonough can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while Stockbridge is ranked 55th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Aniya Dedrick, who scored eight points along with two steals. Dedrick is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Janique Trinidad, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Pace Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They came out on top against Westminster by a score of 74-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Pace Academy found their leader in underclassman Lawson Monroe, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Xian Williams, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
McDonough has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Pace Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
McDonough was taken down by Pace Academy 51-16 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can McDonough avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
