Two dominant backs in Bryson Mcdaniel and Kiefer Sibley are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Giddings Buffaloes will be playing at home against the Connally Cadets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Giddings fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Gonzales on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Apaches 44-38.
Mcdaniel put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 284 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. Mcdaniel's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.
Meanwhile, Connally came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 42-24 win over Robinson. Given Connally's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Robinson is ranked 471st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Connally's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but J'ylon Nobles led the charge by picking up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Jamarion Vincent was another key contributor, throwing for 149 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes.
Connally's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Issacc Perez and his two sacks.
Giddings' loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-7. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.3 points per game. As for Connally, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Giddings has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 212.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Connally struggles in that department as they've been even better at 354.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
