The Fortune Early College Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 69-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pleasant Grove. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Fortune Early College's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Omarion Davis, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabari Pugh, who scored 13 points.
Pleasant Grove got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lionel Williamson out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds. The matchup was Williamson's third in a row with at least ten points. Elijah Sykes was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with 5 assists.
Fortune Early College has fallen quite a ways from their 21-9 record last season and are now at 1-6. As for Pleasant Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Fortune Early College's road trip will continue as they head out to face Vacaville at 11:00 a.m. on December 9th. Vacaville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fortune Early College in California (Vacaville is ranked 430th, while Fortune Early College is ranked 901st). As for Pleasant Grove, they will face off against Cordova at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cordova knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Pleasant Grove likes a good challenge.
