The Greenwood Woodmen will take on the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Greenwood is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 12th on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Tri-West Hendricks.
Breianna Harlow was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Clark, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Franklin Community, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Martinsville 3-1. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Grizzly Cubs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Bryleigh Carlisle-Haltom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Franklin Community saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adeline Blackwell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Franklin Community hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Franklin Community pushed their record up to 10-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Greenwood, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Greenwood hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Franklin Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Greenwood suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Franklin Community when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Woodmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
