Delaware Valley extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping them down to 2-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Valley View Cougars. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.
Will Fells was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Londyn Hernandez and Jesse Hawke did some serious damage despite the final result: Hernandez went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Hawke went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Jameson Kirschner also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
As for Valley View, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
On Valley View's side, Kevin Essig made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Essig has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Muchal, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Marco Ruby, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Delaware Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Scranton Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Valley View will square off against rival North Pocono at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
