This season hasn't been kind to The Newkirk Tigers, who are still winless after their eighth match. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 33-7 walloping at the hands of Perry on Friday. Newkirk was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Perry apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Perry's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxson Cunningham, who threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Kukuk, who gained 168 total yards and two touchdowns.
Newkirk's loss was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Chisholm and 10-4 Jones (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.8% over those games). As for Perry, their win bumped their record up to 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newkirk will take on Blackwell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Blackwell is ranked 228th, while Newkirk is ranked 208th). As for Perry, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Chisholm at 7:00 p.m. Chisholm is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
