Mt. Pleasant relied on the efforts of Jakyri McClure, who went 11-for-18 to rack up 22 points and seven rebounds, and Ryan Benderman, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. Benderman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Micah Dale was another key player, putting up 12 points and five assists.
Mt. Pleasant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Summertown was able to grind out a solid win over Lewis County on Thursday, taking the game 67-58. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly nine points.
Summertown's win came from a few key players Mt. Pleasant will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kurt Burleson, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. What's more, he also posted four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Andrew Mabry, who earned 12 points.
Summertown has been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Mt. Pleasant, their record now sits at 16-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Mt. Pleasant hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.7 points per game. However, it's not like Summertown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 69.7 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Mt. Pleasant ended up a good deal behind Summertown when the teams last played two weeks ago, losing 54-37. Can Mt. Pleasant avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
