The Sanderson Spartans's found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to the Knightdale Knights on Wednesday. Sanderson claimed a resounding 58-31 win over Apex at home. That looming 58-31 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Sanderson yet this season.
Sanderson was led to victory by Nathan Fife and Gordie Balas. Fife scored 19 points along with six assists, while Balas scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Balas scored 15 or more points. Patrick Dalton was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Sanderson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Apex, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sanderson will take on Athens Drive at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Athens Drive will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 412th, while Sanderson is ranked 126th). As for Apex, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Middle Creek at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Middle Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Friday.
