Softball Recap: Independence Has No Trouble Against Greenbrier East

Independence won the last time they faced Greenbrier East and things went their way on Saturday too. The Patriots were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 16 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Paytin Brehm was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Emma Lilly was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Ava Parks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenbrier East only managed three hits.

Independence pushed their record up to 19-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier East, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.

As of now, neither Independence nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
