Hutto is 1-0 against Copperas Cove since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hutto Hippos will head out on the road to face off against the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs at 7:30 p.m. Hutto is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Even though Temple scored an imposing 31 points on Friday, Hutto still came out on top. Everything went Hutto's way against Temple as Hutto made off with a 52-31 victory.
Hutto's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Will Hammond, who threw for 380 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt, and Alex Green, who picked up 300 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Green is on a roll when it comes to receiving yards, as he's now posted 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Copperas Cove's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 45-21 defeat at the hands of Midway. While losing is never fun, Copperas Cove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 573rd, while Midway is ranked 266th).
Despite their defeat, Copperas Cove saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Anthony King, who threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes, was perhaps the best of all. Arthur Miller was in the mix too, providing Copperas Cove with two touchdowns.
Hutto's victory bumped their season record to 2-5 while Copperas Cove's loss dropped theirs to 1-6.
Hutto strolled past Copperas Cove in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 49-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hutto since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
