Monticello hasn't had much luck against Rocori recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Magic will head out to face off against the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Monticello is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 18, 2024 on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Becker a 2-0 shutout. The Magic haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Carson Deibele, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Becker off the board. Deibele has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Monticello's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Easton Peters, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Rocori entered their tilt with Willmar on Thursday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Cardinals.
Tyler Prom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits.
At the plate, Zander Folkerts was a standout: he got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Jake Stalboerger also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Rocori pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Monticello, their record now sits at 9-3.
Monticello suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Rocori when the teams last played back in June of 2019. Can the Magic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
