After eight games on the road, Thornton is heading back home. They will take on the Thornwood Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Thornton earned a 67-60 win over Niles North. Given Thornton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Niles North is ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Morez Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Meyoh Swansey, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Thornwood strolled past Proviso West with points to spare on Sunday, taking the game 59-45.
Thornton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. As for Thornwood, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Thornton came up short against Thornwood in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 51-46. Can Thornton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
