If the Fort Payne Wildcats were feeling good off their 50-15 takedown of the Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Fort Payne took a 55-40 bruising from the Yellow Jackets on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Fort Payne of the 71-52 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture last Tuesday.
Oxford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xaionna Whitfield, who scored 20 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Fort Payne's loss dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Oxford, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season.
Fort Payne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Oxford will head out on the road to challenge the Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gadsden City will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
