Adrian hasn't had much luck against Dexter recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Maples will look to defend their home field against the Dreadnaughts at 11:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Adrian 4.1, Dexter 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Adrian blew Tecumseh out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Tecumseh got their revenge. The Maples fell just short of the Indians by a score of 2-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Maples were not able to get on the board.
Abram Marlatt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Adrian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Solomon Hiatt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Dexter and Skyline meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Dreadnaughts were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Eagles. The Dreadnaughts not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16th (when they won 15-0).
Jack Sayler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple.
In other batting news, Chance Sobbry and Brady Arbaugh did most of the damage at the plate: Sobbry got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Arbaugh went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Arbaugh a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matt Clayton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Dexter's victory bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Adrian, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Adrian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dexter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Adrian suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Dexter when the teams last played back in April. Will the Maples have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
