It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Meridian Wildcats had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 35-23 victory over Ocean Springs. The victory was just what Meridian needed coming off of a 21-0 defeat in their prior match.
Ocean Springs' lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Will Smith, who rushed for 113 yards. Smith has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played.
Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 6-6. As for Ocean Springs, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2.
Meridian will square off against Oak Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oak Grove knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Meridian likes a good challenge. Ocean Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
