The Union Cougars will challenge the San Juan Broncos at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Union barely beat Pine View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Union put the hurt on Pine View with a sharp 19-1 win on Wednesday. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.
Haylee Moynier was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Mollee Rasmussen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peyton Barney, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, San Juan had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against Grand County last Tuesday as San Juan made off with a 14-8 victory. The win continues a trend for the Broncos in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won five in a row.
Elizabeth Palmer was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Morgann Mcpherson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Union's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for San Juan, their record is now 1-0.
Everything went Union's way against San Juan when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Union made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Union since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
