The Alta Hawks will head out to face off against the Brighton Bengals at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Alta has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Alta is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 25-11 margin over Skyline on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Alta got a massive performance out of Brielle Watson, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. What's more, Watson posted four RBI, the most she's had since back in March. June Sylvia was another key player, going 3-for-6 with five runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Alta always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Brighton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost 15-4 to Juan Diego Catholic. That's two games in a row now that the Bengals have lost by exactly 11 runs.
Paisley Gallegos put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cynthia Knowlton made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaedence Springer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Brighton's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Alta, their record is now 7-12.
Brighton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Alta has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Brighton, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Alta's sizable advantage in that area, the Bengals will need to find a way to close that gap.
Alta might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Brighton when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
